Winemaker tasting with Chris Breiner of Stone Mountain Vineyards

Join us at Crush Winehouse on August 25th from 6-9pm as we proudly host Chris Breiner and his wines from Stone Mountain Vineyards.  Established in 1995, Stone Mountain Vineyards is situated atop the Blue Ridge Mountains in Greene County, Virginia.  Known as one of Virginia’s finest boutique wineries, Stone Mountain offers delicate, Italian styled wines of elegance that express the uniqueness of the rocky hillside. Chris Breiner’s award winning wines, listed below, will be at Crush for you to taste, enjoy, and take home!  We look forward to sharing this special evening with you!

Stone Mountain Vineyards Pinot Grigio 2008 Monticello, VA

Made using traditional Italian methods, our Pinot Grigio has a golden straw hue and bright and lively fruit flavors with intense aromas of fresh figs, honeysuckle and melon.

Stone Mountain Vineyards Chardonnay 2008 Monticello VA

Luscious ripeness and crisp lingering finish, orange blossom honey, perfectly ripe green apple, pineapple and other tropical fruits dominate the bouquet.

Stone Mountain Vineyards Viognier 2008 Monticello, VA

Viognier is a very aromatic grape. Upon the mid-palate the wine features a burst of tropical fruits with an elegant oak finish.

Stone Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2007 Monticello, VA

Tight nose opens to feature hints of plum and other dark stone fruits. Upon the palate, this wine widens to include blackberry and raspberry tones, leading to a hint of anise on the finish. Slightly lighter body and delicate tannins follow a more Italian winemaking tradition and are indicative of the 2007 harvest. Enjoy with braised or grilled beef or lamb.

Stone Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Franc 2005 Monticello, VA

Virginia’s premier red wine grape. Grown on one of the higher vineyards on the property, the grapesenjoy sunny mornings creating a wine with a rich fruit-filled nose with plum, hints of blackberry and pipe tobacco. Clean subdued fruit is integrated with oak, leading to a smooth and well-structured memorable finish. The mid-palate spiciness adds character when paired with beef and lamb.

Stone Mountain Vineyards Petit Verdot 2006 Monticello, VA

Historically used as a blending grape, the Petit Verdot produces full-bodied wines with intense deep garnet color. One is greeted by the distinctive aromas of tobacco with a hint of plum. The tobacco carries through the mid-palate, enhanced by layers of raspberry and mellow pepper unfolding within the rich, supple texture. Don’t let historical precedence of a bold blending wine. The elegance of the mid-palate leads you to hints of cherry and a gentle, pleasing tannic finish. Although it can be cellared for five to eight years, this wine is definitely drinkable now.

Crush Introduces Radio Coteau to Maryland

Crush is thrilled to announce the addition of a fabulous new winery to our selection. In keeping with our goal of creating a true wine experience for our guests, we are always seeking out the very best in hand crafted artiginal wines. Many of  the unique selections at Crush are uncommon and hard to find in the Annapolis area.

Our newest ‘find’ is from a small winery in Sonoma, California, called Radio Coteau. Crush has arranged for the first ever shipment to Maryland, from this small producer.

I have had the pleasure of knowing winemaker Eric Sussman for several years  and have long admired the quality and craftsmanship of his wines. I have been proud to have many of his wines in my personal cellar and now I’m excited to serve them to our guests. Radio Coteau, will  be featured in our Enomatic Wine Dispensing system which allows the very best way to ‘try before you.’ A popular feature for those that enjoy tastings before buying a glass or a bottle. Radio Cotequ will be offered in our retail section as well.

Radio Coteau is a colloquial expression suggesting “word of mouth” from the Northern Rhone Region in France. The literal translation is “ broadcasting from the hillside” Eric first heard the expression “radio coteau” while living and working in Burgundy. The name reflects a commitment to capturing reflections of soil, seasons, people and place. Radio Coteau works closely with select cool-weather vineyard sites in Western Sonoma County and Anderson Valley to produce wines with vibrant, balanced fruit and a distinct sense of place.

I believe these wines will be a great addition to our wine program. We hope to get Eric here for a wine dinner in the fall to feature his entire selection.

Alla Salute!

Robert Laggini

Frances Vavloukis, local cook, presents her version of spanakopita, Kotopita and Galatopita, made in the traditional Greek method, which she learned from her father.
